Biobraphy

A virtuosic and lyrical tenor, Sungbae Kim has enjoyed singing various operatic roles, including Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola), Count Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Alfredo (La Traviata), Chanticleer (Chanticleer), Hem (Noah's Flood), Impresario (Der Schauspieldirektor), and Fenton (The Merry Wives of Windsor), to name a few. He has performed with the Atlanta Opera, Ash Lawn-Highland Summer Opera, New Jersey Opera Young Artist Program, Natchez Opera, Delaware Valley Opera in New York, Hudson Opera Theater, and Ridge Light Opera, and was selected to sing for the 2002 Operalia Placido Domingo Competition in Paris.

With diverse ensemble groups, he has frequently performed as a tenor soloist in Mozart's Requiem, Handel’s Messiah and Chandos Anthem, and Dubois’s The Seven Last Words of Christ. As a recitalist, he has performed at Texas State University, the University of Alabama Tuscaloosa, Florida College, LaGrange College, Berry College, Morehouse College, Ludus Tonalis Accademia, and Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities. Most recently, he was invited to perform at the Crocker Classical Series and three recitals in Italy, including the San Giacomo Festival in Bologna. Dr. Kim had the privilege of studying with W. Stephen Smith, Brian McIntosh, Martin Lies, Joseph Colaneri, and the late Nico Castel at the Mannes College of Music and the Mason Gross School of Arts at Rutgers University, where he recently received his Doctor of Musical Arts in voice performance. He also garnered the Associated Teachers League Award in New York.

Over the years, Dr. Kim has also maintained his work as a recording engineer and producer. As a certified audio engineer and the co-founder of Studio Jeeb, he has been actively producing recording projects, including CDs, digital singles, commercials for New Balance, and a music theory textbook for which he sang several musical examples. His digital single album Olim Lacus Colueram (from Carmina Burana) is available online. Currently, Dr. Kim served as a voice faculty member at Georgia College and State University, where he taught voice lessons, singer diction, and opera classes.
